Starting to look more like a road

It's been a while since I added anything on here, Christmas and Work trips have kind of got in the way of house building and planning. The most recent photo at the top of this collection shows where the land is up to at the moment. In a matter of a few months we've gone from grass, mud, gravel and now proper curbs and paths. I can't wait until I drag the husband back out again on the weekend to see if any work has occurred this week. It almost looks as though we could start building our new home although we're still a good few months off that stage unfortunately. Small things like loan approvals, availability of builders plus settlement of land to overcome. So no biggies just a few potential hiccups. We have our proper colour appointment with Carlisle at the end of this month and so I'm sure I'll end up spending most of my annual leave that week obsessing over the details of that but to be honest I can't wait.

Taking a walk down our new street

End of the street to where our house will be built

Looking at where the front of our house will be
Looking up the road towards the park
I managed to find a gap in the fence the other week when doing a drive by our land so I couldn't resist but to take a walk down our new street and stand on our block of land. It doesn't look like much at the moment but give it a few more months and I'm hoping for a road at least. We're still some way off being able to start building as the land doesn't title until February 2015. The only thing I've noticed so far is the wind picks up a bit, hopefully with houses being built we will have a bit of shelter in our garden.

Colour browse appointment

Saturday 18th was our colour browse appointment with Carlisle homes. The appointment itself went for about an hour and then the fun started. We were handed a breakdown of choices we'd need to make at our next meeting with them and so after we had completed the appointment we went back to the beginning and started noting down everything we liked and combination of colours etc. Safe to say we didn't get back around to everything. Nearly 3 hours after we arrived it was time to leave, not because they were closing but because we were both exhausted from trying to blend styles and colours throughout the house so nothing obviously clashed.

Although I'm sure it won't be the final choices so far these are some of our decisions.

Category 1 bricks - Manna Gum

Starting to think about interior colours

Render colour for front of the house (Cave Man)

Second choice render colour for front of the house

Upgrade for the showers both ensuite and main bathroom - the one in the middle without the soap dish hopefully (not a massive cost thankfully $60 I think for Affinity range)

Standard sinks for bathroom and ensuite with the standard taps.

Category 2 stone benchtop and upgrade to glass splashback for Kitchen.

Category 1 stone benchtop for ensuite, category 1 laminex and upgrade to feature tiles for splashback

Am I crazy?

It's been a little while since I thought to put something on here but that doesn't mean that things haven't been moving along.

Our home design from the last post has been finalised, the initial deposit paid and a colour browse appointment booked in by our Client Liaison Executive at Carlisle. We're both looking forward to taking another look around the Spectra Centre to put together our ideas for what our home will look like. Above shows the Atlantique 29 which we have modified slightly to include a larger alfresco area (extended by 2m) and a different facade than displayed so that the WIR is behind where our bed will sit. I guess that makes it more of a walk through robe in the absence of knowing the actual name. We've also added entertainer doors from the kitchen and meals area which will open completely onto the alfresco area with no corner pillar making one very large living space during the warm months when everything is opened up or even the colder ones if we enclose the alfresco.

Since our appointment with the builder we have also paid the remainder of the land deposit and organised our Conveyancer. Now this is where the crazy part comes in. Anyone else have this overwhelming desire to keep visiting the same bit of dirt every weekend just to see how far along it's come? Our land doesn't even title until February 2015 and there isn't even anything that resembles a road but this hasn't stopped me. Surely I can't be the only one. The changes are hardly anything to write home about but none the less we've been back a few times now just to see what has gone on in our absence. So just to share the excitement here are 3 photos showing the development of our new road, yes that's right we haven't even got the road in yet. It's only a couple of weeks between the photos so I dread to think how exciting this is going to get once we can actually drive down the road and see our block.

The road finally taking shape, we're the last one on the right

Friday 19 September 2014

9am seems like a crazy time to be waiting outside a show home especially as the entire street of show homes don't usually open until 11am on the weekends. Having said that though, we were there with the purpose of securing the house which will become our home. First deposit paid and the process of building our new home has started.

So we have decided on the Atlantique 29 Mk4 from Carlisle homes.
It will look amazing on our 21m x 34m block and allow us at a later stage to add a swimming pool / spa area for those warm summer days - can't wait :)
